Life makes me laugh

I decided that I had not paid attention to Dilip in a long while and hence here goes another story. This is again Dilips story told as a first person account.

I had just passed the green with a spring in my step and a tune on my lips to head towards hostel block 2 for a party. We had made this our party place and tonight was another such party happening to mark Halloween. I passed through the main door and was standing outside my friends apartment after ringing the bell waiting for them to open up. At this time, another person came up to my left and pressed the bell again. I, in my usual habit of giving people space in such situations, moved to the right and looked at the person. That person was none other than Gayathri, a student in my university, someone who i had never set my eyes upon. She ended the silence by saying Hi and some general chatter. People who know the effect of such an incidence on me, spare me one more time as i have to explain to the new ones who do not know. Every time a beautiful girl says Hi to me accompanied by a sweet smile, i feel as if i am struck by lightning and it becomes like that scene in saroja where angels dance in front of Premghi. Such things happen once in while and qualify as simple joys and i was back to feeling weightlessness on earth.

The door opened and she went inside and i followed slowly behind. Safe to say that i could not take my eyes off her and i went to remove my coat and then headed to the kitchen where she was sitting with her group of friends. I found out there that she was the classmate of one my friend's flatmate. I was stealing glances all the way through the time we were there and the glass of beer in my hand was no match for the state of my mind because of her. I was kicking myself for not asking for her contact details. I knew her only as gayathri. nothing else. what was the possibility of me meeting her again?

And then we headed out from the party kitchen to the main pub in the university for the disco that had been arranged for that night. All the way i felt as though i could have talked more. One more line. whats your phone no? where are you from? what course are you doing? for the first time in my life, i liked a girl but knew next to nothing about her and had no exact way of finding out any thing further. At the disco, i saw her again, dancing away to some random tune. To me that sight was like looking at a combination of venus and aphrodite. I was chicken to go and talk to her. I also thought to myself that it was probably not a good idea to go and barge into a group of which she was a part of. What would I say? Hi? again? and then? these thoughts and the stupor induced by the heady mix of beer and attraction was enough for my mind to let the night pass.

There is a song that describes this very situation very well and i remember having hummed it that night.

Annie's Song by John Denver

You fill up my senses like a night in the forest.
Like the mountains in spring-time
like a walk in the rain
like a storm in the desert
like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses, come fill me again.

Come let me love you, let me give my life to you
Let me drown in your laughter, let me die in your arms.
Let me lay down beside you, let me always be with you.
Come let me love you, come love me again.

to be continued...
